Backyard Candles is a small batch candle company located in San Diego, CA. The name Backyard Candles comes from the belief that we all share a collective backyard. Our goal is to represent ALL backyards and in every form. Hence, our candles are inspired by the elements. Earth, Air, Water and Fire. We believe in doing everything we can to protect this earth, which is why we use up-cycled coconut shells, recycled wine bottles, and reusable glass, ceramics, concrete and tins. Our waxes (soy, coconut and beeswax) are completely natural and clean burning when paired with our cotton and cedar-wood wicks. We use phthalate free fragrance oils and therapeutic grade essential oils to create our true to life aromatic indoor fragrances. For our outdoor candle collection, we have 3 fragrances, and utilize coconut shells as well as galvanized tins for the vessels. The candles are made using natural soy/beeswax, pure essential oils, and cotton or wood wicks. Our outdoor candle collection is 100% natural. Our coconut candle packaging consists of biodegradable plastic wrap and a recycled label. 5% of every sale is donated to help protect the environment.
Q. What are Backyard Candles made of?
A. These candles are handmade using real, up-cycled coconut shells, 100% natural, vegan, biodegradable, and clean-burning soy and coconut waxes, cruelty-free and clean burning fragrances infused with essential oils, non-toxic dyes and zinc/lead-free cotton wicks. Our packaging consists of a recycled label and biodegradable shrink wrap.
Q. How long do these candles last?
A. With proper care, the 5oz size will last 15-20 hours and the 4oz size will last 10-12 hours. We recommend burning for 3-4 hours at a time, always trimming your wick, and discarding of the wick trimmings. Discontinue use when 1/4in of wax remains.
Q. How many fragrances do you offer?
A. We offer 53 fragrances, numbered to match the weeks in the year (added an extra one ). We also have gift sets available that include 5 candles per set!
Q. Are these candles meant to be used outside?
A. We have 3 outdoor fragrances with 2 of them being indoor/outdoor and 53 indoor fragrances inspired by our collective Backyard.
Q. Do these candles float?
A. Yes! These coconut shell candles can float in calm water. We recommend waiting till the second or third lighting so the candle is buoyant enough.
Q. Do you give back?
A. Yes! 5% of profit from every sale is donated to help protect the environment. For the coconut shell candles our donations go towards ocean cleanup and coral reef restoration.
